ChatArchivr Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
ChatArchivr is a browser extension that exports and archives your own AI conversations. It is built to keep your data on your device.
Who runs ChatArchivr
ChatArchivr is run by Jake Charlesworth (sole trader), United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
What the extension accesses
- Conversation content on supported sites only: chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, grok.com, x.com/i/grok and gemini.google.com. The extension reads the conversation shown in the open tab only when you click Export, Copy, Save to library or a floating-button action. It never reads other websites and never scrapes in the background.
- Settings such as your default format, whether the floating button is shown, and your filename template.
Where data is stored
- Exported files are created in your browser and saved to your computer through the browser's normal download.
- Chats you save go into the extension's local storage (IndexedDB) on this device only. You can delete them from the Library at any time. Uninstalling the extension removes them.
- ChatArchivr has no servers. It contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking code, and it does not transmit conversation content anywhere.
Payments (ChatArchivr Pro)
ChatArchivr Pro is not on sale yet. Builds where Pro is not enabled contain no payment code and make no contact with any payment service.
When Pro is enabled, upgrades are processed by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which uses Stripe for payment. In those builds:
- The extension contacts extensionpay.com to check your licence status (whether you have paid). ExtensionPay assigns an anonymous licence key to your installation for this purpose.
- If you choose to upgrade, the payment page is hosted by ExtensionPay/Stripe. Your email address and card details are entered there and handled by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com) and Stripe under their own policies; see Stripe's privacy policy. ChatArchivr never sees your card details.
- A small content script runs on extensionpay.com pages only, so the extension knows when a payment completes.
- The licence result is cached locally so Pro keeps working offline.
- The licence check never includes your conversations, library, or browsing data.
Sharing and sale
The extension does not sell, transfer or share user data. Use of data is limited to the extension's single purpose, which is exporting and archiving your AI conversations, in line with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
This website and the newsletter
- chatarchivr.com uses no cookies, analytics or third-party trackers. The site is hosted by Netlify, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and time) for security. Those logs are handled under Netlify's privacy policy.
- Controller: Jake Charlesworth (sole trader), United Kingdom (see "Who runs ChatArchivr" above).
- What is collected: your email address when you join the newsletter, plus the sign-up details Buttondown records with it (such as the sign-up time, IP address and referring page).
- Purpose and lawful basis: to send you ChatArchivr updates. The lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You give it by ticking the consent box and then confirming through the link in the confirmation email (double opt-in).
- Processor and international transfer: the newsletter is stored and sent by Buttondown, LLC, a processor based in the United States, so your email address is transferred to the US. Buttondown's data processing agreement covers transfers from the UK with the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum. See Buttondown's privacy policy and data processing agreement.
- Sharing: we never sell your email address, and only share it with Buttondown to send the newsletter.
- Retention: until you unsubscribe; you are removed from the list on unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can email us to be removed.
- Your rights: under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to rectification, to erasure, to restriction of processing, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew). To use any of these rights, email chatarchivr.support@gmail.com.
- Complaints: you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Firefox
The Firefox version declares no data collection to Mozilla.

ChatArchivr is not directed at children under 13.
